Privacy

Takahē Adventures Limited (company number 9428397) collects and handles personal information in accordance with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do about it.

What we collect

When you enquire or book, we collect your name, email address, phone or WhatsApp number, country, preferred dates, party size, and whatever you tell us about your group — including walking ability, interests, dietary requirements and any medical, mobility or accessibility needs relevant to your day.

Payment card details are collected and processed by our booking provider, not by us. We never see or store your full card number.

When you visit our website we also collect basic technical information — IP address, browser type, pages viewed — through our website platform and analytics.

Why we collect it

To answer your enquiry, plan and run your tour, contact you about your booking including weather updates, cater for dietary and medical needs, and meet our health and safety obligations. We also use it to keep proper business records as required by New Zealand law.

We will only send you marketing email if you have asked us to, and every such email carries an unsubscribe link.

Health information

If you tell us about a medical condition, allergy, injury or mobility need, we treat that as health information: we use it only to plan and run your tour safely, we share it only with your guide, and we delete it once your tour is complete unless you have booked again.

Who we share it with

We share what's necessary with the services that help us run the business:

  • Bókun, our booking and payment platform, which processes bookings and card payments

  • Squarespace, which hosts this website and receives enquiry form submissions

  • Our email provider, and our accountant for payment records

  • Restaurants, vineyards and activity providers, where your booking includes them — only your first name, party size and dietary requirements

  • Emergency services or medical providers, if there is an emergency on tour

If you book through an online travel agent or a hotel concierge, they will pass us your details and we will hold them under this policy.

Some of these providers store data outside New Zealand. We do not sell your information to anyone, ever.

How long we keep it

Enquiries that don't lead to a booking: 12 months. Booking records: seven years, as required for New Zealand tax purposes. Health and dietary information: deleted after your tour, as above.

Cookies and analytics

Our website uses cookies for basic functionality and to understand how people find and use the site. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; some parts of the site may not work as well if you do.

Your rights

You can ask us at any time to see the personal information we hold about you, correct anything wrong, or delete it — subject to records we're legally required to keep. Email paul@takahe.co.nz and we'll respond within 20 working days.

If you're in the UK or the European Union, you have additional rights under the UK GDPR and EU GDPR, including the right to object to processing, to request a copy of your data in a portable format, and to complain to your local data protection authority.

Complaints

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, email paul@takahe.co.nz first and we'll try to sort it out. If you're not satisfied, you can complain to the New Zealand Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
